Two new men are becoming faces of fragrances: Fendi wil... Go
With Bas de Soie (“silk Stocking”), Serge Lutens continues to mine a humorous vein for his fragrances’ names. In olfactory terms, he has gone back to a floral theme, which is a relatively rare occurrence for a perfumer renowned for his affection for oriental scents. The key flower here is hyacinth. Iris is also there, to bring a soft touch of powder. Male fans of green and floral scents might very well enjoy wearing Bas de Soie, too. Despite the scent’s somewhat whimsical name, Serge Lutens has not specifically designated it as a being for women.
Presented as an iris-hyacinth duo, Bas de Soie focuses essentially on the latter. The fragrance opens on a stem effect reminiscent of galbanum. The green impression that is natural to hyacinth lingers, but is softened with florals with slightly cosmetic tonalities: it seems to convey lily-of-the-valley, lilac, orange blossom and perhaps violet. Iris, which the designer treated in an exacerbated way in Iris Silver Mist, is much lighter and suppler here, and much drier too, granting the fragrance a silkiness that echoes its name.
