Description
First's top note is fruity with touches of black currant, bergamot and mandarin.The middle note has a floral and aldehyde character and is composed of jasmine, rose, and ylang ylang.The end note is composed of amber and vanilla character.
History
"First" is the first perfume signed by a jeweler. It bears the slogan: ''Every woman deserves to be first.'' Jewels and perfumes are closely linked as they both embellish women.''Perfume and jewels are women's two ornaments.'' Pierre Arpels used to say.At the time, introducing a perfume was seen as a high stake for a jeweler. Since Van Cleef & Arpels paved the way, many have followed suit including Cartier, Boucheron, et Mauboussin.
Bottle
The bottle is shaped after the most famous pendant signed by the jeweler: the oval Valencienne pendant.

Je viens d'acquérir ce grand classique de la parfumerie féminine. Moi qui ai toujours eu horreur des parfums fleuris aldéhydés que je trouve trop lourds, je me suis surprise à le tester... J'avoue que lorsque j'ai parfumé mon poignet je me suis demandé ce qui m'avait pris... Mais, en amatrice de parfum, je sais bien qu'il faut le laisser évoluer et je ne me suis pas trompée : les notes de coeur et de fond sont très douces, rien à voir avec les notes de tête très "savonneuses" et acides. Je partage l'avis d'Eckbo et Esther, c'est un parfum de peau aux milles facettes qui se teinte différemment selon la femme qui le porte. Quoi de plus sensuel qu'un parfum qui se fond à votre peau et qui révèle une senteur unique ? Et le flacon reflète bien l'œuvre du joaillier, comme tous les Van Cleef et Arpels...

This is very characteristic of old school perfumes. The aldehydes don't bother me at all (like they do in some Chanel scents). It has a dry-not powdery middle. It is dry and crisp at the same time. I consider this a date scent. Congrats to YSL for creating a fragrance that can stand up to 40 years of new launch perfumes and still being different from most of them.
