Source

Labdanum cistus is a shrub native to the Middle East and the mountains on the eastern Mediterranean coast. Nowadays it is found in all Mediterranean countries but only harvested in Spain and Morocco.

Extraction Method

Cistus is a low shrub with pink or white ornamental flowers, whose shoots secrete a sweet-smelling and viscous resin called labdanum. Labdanum ciste essence can be obtained through steam distillation of the branch. The resinoid is obtained through extraction, using volatile solvents.

Use

The gum is mostly used in oriental and chypre perfumes with fougere and spicy notes.

Medicinal properties

Labdanum has antiseptic and tonic properties. It eases bronchial conditions and is used to treat scrofulous skin conditions such as ulcers, tumors or cancers. Its odor influences awareness and artistic leanings, helps people enjoy life, enhances optimism and contributes to success by creating positive thinking.
