Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain founded the brand that bears his name in 1828. “Glory is ephemeral …only renown is long-lasting,” he liked to say. Indeed, like its classics scents, the brand has seen fashion trends come and go for almost two centuries. We really must mention Jicky, launched in 1889, which could well be described as the first modern fragrance. Then came L’Heure Bleue (1914), Mitsouko (1919) and Shalimar (1925) a gentle oriental, and the house’s signature scent. These three perfumes can still be counted – along with the men’s scents Vetiver (1959) and Habit Rouge (1965) – amongst the brand’s biggest successes. Also present in cosmetics, today the house of Guerlain propose a variety of fragrances, ranging from the freshness of the Aqua Allegoria line to custom-made scents, via the extremely exclusive ‘L’Art et la Matière’ collection (Iris Ganache, Rose Barbare, Bois d’Armenie, Cruel Gardenia…).
