The birth of American niche perfumery (part 4) : YOSH olfactory sense

Yosh Han is a pefumer from San Francisco who knew early in her career that she wanted to work with olfaction as an artistic medium. As she says, « If seeing is believing, then fragrance is feeling ». She invented a new word to describe what happens when you smell : trans-aromation. « As your senses are transported by scent, you are transformed » !
It is no coincidence that the Chinese character for yosh means 'fragrant'. Yosh grew up with a botanical background - her mother was a trained ikebana* master, and only Oriental medicine using herbs and roots was used in the household, with the occasional visit to an acupuncturist.

After a chance discovery of a perfume shop in Aspen in 1994, Yosh felt an inner message that she was supposed to be there and asked to apprentice at the shop. Over the next two years she learned to identify and combine essential oils and various natural perfume essences, and today Yosh uses these elixirs in her own modern practice of the ancient art of perfumery. What inspires her are nature, art, people she meet, and conversations and things that evoke emotions or memories of a place and time.

Yosh olfactory sense is a boutique fragrance company and consultancy (custom-made fragrances, fragrance workshops…) specializing in artisanal perfumes. Her Luxury Elements Collection range combines the art of perfumery with aromachology**. Each multi-faceted scent is hand-crafted and blended by Yosh and then is assigned a numerical value that corresponds to the fragrance family and resonates with the principles of chakra energy and numerology. Based on moods, personalities, and intuition, each perfume has a specific chakra that it aligns with to balance and enhance optimal well-being.

Yosh's Luxury Elements Collection has a devoted cult-fan following, with the most popular scents being Ginger Ciao (Yosh's signature scent), a mix of ginger, spicy flowers, black coconut, sandalwood and basil, and Stargazer***, redolent of Kenya lily and white ginger. Yosh also proposes U4EAHH!, a euphoric tapestry of pomegranate, aloe vera, cucumber, pear and waterlily. But my personal favorite is the scent that Yosh created with Sniffapalooza as her inspiration : a wonderful floral-woody fragrance baptized Phenomenon !
