The Scent of Brazil (part III)

Eurico Mazzini, one of the best Brazilian perfumers with a solid international and national experience in leading perfume houses such as Drom, Firmenich and ex-Quest Internacional (now Givaudan) and responsible for famous fragrance creations as Natura Kaiak and O Boticário Myriad understands well how scents have the power of reviving special moments in each of us. Nowadays he is the Senior Perfumer of Drom Brasil and fascinates everybody with his great passion for perfumery, more than only a matter of career. “The perfumery is an industry that I work for with one of the most important senses, more long-lasting, more remarkable. We can forget and forget easily things we see, hear and touch, but never forget the scents, they always bring us the most remarkable moments in our life.” – adds the experienced and passionate Brazilian perfumer.

His solid background in the national perfumery and his opinion about “The scent of Brazil” confirm that the creative freedom in fragrances here is very connected to the freedom that comes from the scents diversity in the country and, therefore there are many possibilities of finding our authentic scent. Eurico Mazzini tells me further “We have a big country, with a huge mix of races, cultures, customs and also the weather is variable in each city. Nothing is new until here, as well as it is not new our will of identifying what is the true Brazilian scent. The Brazilian is fascinated by the freshness, by livelier, lighter, simple and joyful fragrances. They can have points, “overdoses” in some ingredient and also be a little technical, provided that the fragrance has life, rhythm and impact. Even in fragrances more elaborated we feel the freshness and even in the heaviest we feel the impact. Nowadays we can wear everything because we receive products from all over the world, therefore our market has rather developed, and we have creative companies and perfumes. Then, we have the freshness as remarkable signature, but every day we are free to new scents and connected to the movements and trendies of the world. I think that better than having only one scent is being able of selecting among all”.

It is undeniable there is an odoriferous diversity in the Brazilian culture that makes possible an advance and a freedom to work on new innovation in perfumes, mainly when joining it with the main trendies in perfumery and the seductive appeal feature so explored in scents. Sonia Corazza, chemical engineer and cosmetologist experienced in companies such as Avon, O Boticário, IFF and who works actively as scientific researcher in aromas biodiversity in Brazil, also leading her beauty site Beleza Inteligente tells me further “The Brazilian has many scents because there are many Brazilians, however the olfactory experience that most impact any foreign is in the seductive mix given by the combination of spicy notes coming from the peppers of our land, the cinnamon and the clove and a sweet touch. This mixture that comes from the habitual menu of Brazil warms up the skin and provides an insight of fully revealed seduction. See how perfumes with spicy oriental nuances, harmonized by gourmand are successful in our country. No matter the time, neither the social condition, the Brazilian woman, for example, always select these vigorous notes instead of floral bouquets.”

Under this point of view, the biggest gifts of knowing and living in a country as Brazil is have real and olfactory journeys in these different contexts and that inspire perfumers, others professionals in perfume industry and all of us and then the absolute conviction that the scent of Brazil can be the next, the next and the next one, having the uniqueness through the whole of possibilities, joining the local identity and the global features in fragrances, mainly adding more gustatory, fruity and spicy notes aligned to the smoothness and the vitality of the fragrance that reflects the beauty, energy and modernity of Brazilian people.
