The Scent of Brazil, (part II)

The values of raw materials joining fresh and radiant accords, classic flowers, tropical fruits, rare woods, rich spices and resins and sensual sweet accords that evoke the natural beauty and unique seduction of Brazilian people, aligning to the freshness and the warmth of our identity. This energy that irradiates as a remarkable nice smile is accompanied by a smoothness, the freshness feature on each individual here, because of that, before anything, the scent of Brazil is refreshing and light as well as the first lavender citrusy fragrances that were produced in the country from 70’s, one of them O Boticário Acqua Fresca which was the first Brazilian perfume with fresh notes such as bergamot, lemon and lavender and was a worldwide sales success and one of the classics of the brand. Until nowadays, fragrances which are citrusier and more lavender included also some modern ones are widely worn in warmer regions, mainly in the Northeastern of the country.

Not less important, the personal values are in the own Brazilian behavior: Joyful, spontaneous and cheerfully good-humored. Good, friendly and vain. Sensual and beautiful. Dreamy, dynamic, energic. These virtues also qualify fragrances compositions with fresh, aromatic classics, seductive fruity florals and floral orientals, youthful and amusing gourmands and light sophisticated woody scents, an endless number of scents so intrinsically Brazilian that fill the country with a diversity brasility from Oiapoque until Chuí.

However, between the classic creations and the modernity of new combinations, the best reward that the Art of Perfumery may bring is the new olfactory experiences such revealing how we can develop this field devoting ourselves to the beauty of the primitive olfaction sense in our culture. The Brazilian scent is more than only freshness, it has evocated more and more the sensuality and vitality of people that wish only demonstrate a radiant joie of vivre, no matter their age or social level, overcoming all daily difficulties that, while in a country in development, always were adaptable to overcome anything and, naturally, keep the beauty, the seduction and the wellness among us, a love proof with the right of a 100% national scent.

Verônica Kato, Natura in-house perfumer, one of the leading Brazilian companies in cosmetics and perfumery tells me “ during years, the most acceptable notes in the Brazilian market were citrus and lavender notes by their freshness, but nowadays the market has been changed and the fruity and sweeter notes which feature joy and sensuality are in season, however now if we think of an unique scent in Brazil, we can say that the scents of the Brazilian biodiversity such as nuts, pitanga, açai those are unique scents that only Brazil owns”.

Symbol of the biodiversity of Brazilian raw materials in the composition of perfumery and cosmetics, the Natura Ekos line has meant a milestone in the national market of fragrances using compounds from our land as buriti, pitanga, Para nuts, cacao, andiroba, etc and also consolidated, beautifully, the business value of social responsability and culture of developing selfsustainability with local communities of Amazonia and others regions in which the richness of scents comes from, a best practice that is recognized by its excellence and benchmarking all over the world. Therefore, this milestone confirms that the scent of Brazil brings fragrances connected to the local native beauty, the Brazilian diversity in people and scents

It is evident that the big challenge for the perfumery is to capture what we have as best and many companies here have been working intensely to put the national market in one position more and more successfully with an excellent quality and international reach without letting behind country’s particularities. Companies such as Avon Brasil, Natura, O Boticário, L’acqua di Fiori, Racco, Água de Cheiro, Jequiti, mostly represent the fragrances market and move the local industry in diverse actions. Natura for example, has found much more the essence of Brazil in the nature and, nowadays, exports for the world, mainly in Latin America and Europe. Particularly, smelling its perfumes is like to have a journey over precious scents of the Brazilian flora, set an emotional connection that associates me to these raw materials sources and let awake olfactory memories that are a dejà vu of my life moments such as climbing a pitanga tree in the house of my godmother during my childhood times and eat these sour and delicious fruits, bring to my memory an unforgettable travel to the South of Bahia, prosperous region of Cacao and remind me of the gourmand touch of it in a handmade chocolate bar. These scented memories have the face of Brazil and a life with simplicity that makes each Brazilian closer to their natural roots.
