The fragrant trail of major hotels

Some people create trendy fragrances, others create ambiance fragrances. Blaise Mautin just loves to capture the atmosphere of a big hotel inside the nets of a fragrance. From the Bristol to the Brenner, let's follow the trails of a young creator who's got some flair.

All roads lead to perfumes, and Blaise Mautin knows something about that. In principle, nothing could have predicted his future in this creative field. With his family reigning over the mythical "Le Nain Bleu" toy store in Paris, his future lay elsewhere, among dolls, teddy bears and other fluffy toys. As a matter of fact, that is where his professional life started.
But he was already endowed with an olfactive imagination, full of intuition and images. "For me, a little girl choosing a toy evoked a perfume," confides Blaise. Then, one day, perfumes got the better of him, and this young man, useless at math and chemistry, but driven by his enthusiasm and a profound sensitivity, took up a perfumer's course. His passion? Beautiful stories and mythical places.

A scented signature

From one evening spent between the garden and the salons of the Bristol - one of the finer hotels in Paris - he came up with an alliance between Malagasy geranium and an iridescent, powdery rose, resulting in an eminently feminine and chic fragrance. The hotel managers liked the idea. For them, the fragrance evokes an elegant place, and capturing some of its magic in a bottle is a sure way of creating a lasting relationship with the guests.

A male version of Bristol is in the works

With the approval of many, there had to be a sequel to this fragrant story. No sooner designed than ordered. The writing of this second chapter led Blaise Mautin's to another luxury hotel: the Brenner in Baden-Baden. Again, the challenge was to capture the ambiance of a place rich in history and poetry. Empress Eugenia was a regular and she took a liking for the roses of this spa. Our young creator was also attracted to the smell of freshly-mowed lawns. Out of this union was born a luminous and sparkling rose, with just enough green notes to prevent heaviness. Two successful adventures for Blaise Mautin who is now concocting a men's scent for the Bristol, while nurturing projects for the other hotels of the group. An original career for an equally original creator.
