New York inspires fragrances…

When they need fresh ideas, fragrance brands come looking for inspiration in… New York. Because you can always find something there that you won’t find anywhere else. So check out some of the rare and trendy scents osMoz found for you in the Big Apple.

Nearly 10 years since 9/11, New York is as vibrant, energetic and charismatic as ever. Fashion and fragrance are part of the scene, with lots of new brands to sniff out in the city’s department stores. New York also offers a creative setting for European brands looking for new ideas.
In fact, niche brand Honoré des Prés has just launched a new collection christened ‘We Love NY’. The fragrances dreamt up by the house’s perfumer, Olivia Giacobetti, are certified organic, and their playful look was inspired by take-away drink cups. The fusion-food inspired menu of scents includes: carrot-iris (I Love les carottes), tuberose-rum (Vamp à NY) and coconut-coriander (Love Coco). Of course, the collection’s name is a tribute to the ‘I Love NY’ logo created by Milton Glaser in 1977 and printed on thousands of T-shirts, mugs and more that can be found in every souvenir shop in the city.

As for major brands, even oh-so-French Chanel has been inspired by New York. For their latest men’s scent, BLEU de Chanel, a fresh woody-aromatic scheduled for release in August, the house sent the fragrance’s face, actor Gaspard Ulliel, to New York. Pulsing with energy and mystery, Manhattan provides the perfect late-night cityscape for the commercial, shot by none other than Martin Scorsese.

Another celebrity famous for her affection to “the City” is Carrie Bradshaw… or rather Sarah Jessica Parker, who incarnates the Sex & the City heroine’s whimsical charm in the ad for her latest fragrance. Christened SJP NYC, the scent was indeed inspired by Carrie Bradshaw’s glamorously colorful New York lifestyle. Gardenia, mimosa and rose intertwine with notes of wild strawberry and rum in a colorful bottle.
