By Cristiane Gonçalves, Owner of Perfume da Rosa Negra

Green and yellow, colors that are in the Brazilian’s national flag, colors of a nation that loves the intense sun which in real summer dreams is painted by yellow and combines beautifully with the green trees and the blue sky in a relaxing moment closer to a beach of fascinating beauty. Long live to the forests, green lung of our country that breathes life with the gorgeous nature. In this summer, Brazil embraces more the colors of its identity in the scent and in the flavor. Refreshing drinks of kiwi, lemon and apple are mixed to the bright yellow or orange colors of passion fruit, mango, orange, papaya and pineapple and to the seduction of the red colored fruits such as strawberry, raspberry and watermelon that refresh the taste and feed the body to make people get the best of the total energic season. The market releases more and more delightful fresh and creamy mouthwatering ice creams, be in traditional flavors be in exotic ones, they are so delicious as smelling a vanilla perfume, regional fruits such as mangaba, graviola, cupuaçu and so many others seem ingredients of an imaginary tropical fragrance and the water lasts more than the bath hour in diverse forms from the fresh mineral water to the iced tonic one and also the coconut water, vital source to quench people’s thirst in this beloved summer. Colored healthy salads illuminate dishes filled by dark green vegetables spiced by a Mediterranean touch that joins the vitality of a Brazil that loves a joie de vivre, peppery.

The Brazilian Summer is the most expected season of the year because the country invites its citizens and visitors from all over the world to enjoy the earthy paradise with its beautiful beaches and other regions and its energic atmosphere that motivates people to a lively happiness and relaxing rest on vacation or in any day. Although Brazil is not only the Land of Fun, that is, people here work hard to enjoy some fun later, this season promotes people be closer, have sports and general leisure activities and sensations of energy, freedom, vitality and wellness, thus people wish to be fragrant to feel good with themselves and with others mainly while socializing and, at the same time, wear a fragrance that evokes “winning” freshness and spontaneity, that is, fragrances that are able of dealing with the high temperatures of the season that lately have been very high. For the season, fragrances and cosmetics companies are releasing combinations of fresh products as diverse as the diversity that exists in the country: citrus, lavender, aromatic, aquatic/ozonic, fruity and light florals fragrances that perfume energically or delicately or/and are a fresh and relaxing extension of the bath. Refreshing notes lead the compositions of these summery perfumes such as bergamot, lemon, orange and mandarin and subtle woody, ambery and musky base notes are kept in a pleasant drydown; besides the formulation of aromatics with thyme, basil, galbanum, geranium rosmarine and lavender, fruity delights with seductive ripen red fruits and the use of gentle flowers such as muguet, jasmine, rose and peony. Splashes, colognes and eaux de toilette that have less concentration of the fragrance are recommended for the season and are integrated to the beauty ritual of people who love to care their wellness and perfume ourselves, moreover, the main fresh classics in the Brazilian perfumery have their sales increased such as Kaiak da Natura and Quasar Men from O Boticário and the traditional lavender, various floral splashes and fresh floral scents enveloped by musk and transparent woods for women.

Normally, even though there are patterns of fresh citrus fragrances and olfactory trendies with new combinations of sparkling and tropical ingredients, there is versatility in the use of fragrances in Brazilian lands during this season. It happens because the country is vast and there is some difference of perfuming habits between regions because the climate also changes between them. The Northeast is warmer and drier, the South is colder, the South-East is cooler (and also more diverse), the North is more humid and, in times of global warming, the summer has had some weather instabilities. In the Northeast, for example, lavender fragrances are more valued than in the South and South-East, regions that have more tempered weathers becoming easier the use of fragrances from different olfactory families, mainly the aromatic of fougère accord for men and the floral fruity and floral woody musk for women. São Paulo, as a very big urban city, may require any type of those fragrances according to the day temperature and occasion in a same year’s season, for example. There are also those who prefer more seductive and light perfumes for warmer days such as the fresh woody, the light fruity or vanilic scents and also the elegant and modernized chypres and the youthful florals with a subtle oriental ambery or musky touch, because of that, there are people here that prefer to wear moderately their favorite fragrances not following precisely if the fragrance is for summer or not, this behavior is very welcome because perfuming in any season is an open-minded matter of taste, personality, city temperature and occasion, obviously respecting the good sense of the scent etiquette, that is, light applications that respect always someone’s olfaction, after all, Summer is wellbeing in all senses.
