“Behind the Scenes in the Fragrance Industry: Professional Options”

For a few years now, brands and houses have been communicating about the perfumers they work with. Like fashion designers, some perfumers have become household names, appearing in fashion magazines and even on TV. But behind every stunning fragrance, there’s a whole range of fascinating professions that we wanted to introduce you to.

To get an idea of the fragrance industry, you could compare it to the music business. Behind every popular song, there are lots of other professions that make it possible for the artist to perform: musicians, lyricists, choreographers, etc. And that’s not even including those who make concerts happen, design the album covers, the ads, etc. By the same token, the fragrances we buy at perfume stores have also benefitted from the combined work of a number of specialists.
Evaluators, for instance, assist perfumers in their creative work, tracking down tiny flaws or inconsistencies in the formula, encouraging designers and helping them to better interpret the house’s olfactory request. But before a brand launches a new fragrant creation, they perform all sorts of other tasks: researching ingredients, marketing, analyzing trends, communicating, sales... And that’s not all. Fragrances also tell stories through their bottles. And their names.
Above and beyond the pleasure of talking fragrance with you on a daily basis, we have always cared deeply about helping you to learn about and understand them better.
So in this special report, we have selected a few players from the fragrance industry to tell us about their jobs. Who knows? Maybe the men and women we’ve interviewed will inspire future vocations...
