The German top model came through Paris recently for the inaugural opening of the new Bulgari boutique on Avenue Montaigne. A long time friend of the Bulgari family, Claudia Schiffer never misses their events. She gracefully accepted to answer our questions. (06/2001)

Do you like perfume ?

I like all of them. I have several and never leave the house without putting some on. I change fragrances every day depending on my mood. And I take advantage of the summer and winter launches to discover new scents. I love it. And then I started collecting perfumes. Now I have quite a few. It's great!

What scents do you like in particular ?

Rose, cut grass but mostly vanilla. And then very fresh scents: I like eaux scents very much. In winter, I mostly use scented body oils. But I adapt my fragrance to the climate of the country where I'm staying.

What fragrance are you wearing today ?

Eau Parfumée au Thè Vert by Bulgari.

Do you use home fragrances ?

Yes, I use jasmine scented candles. And then I burn incense. In fact I use it everywhere and buy tons of it.

What are your childhood memories of fragrance ?

My mother's perfume : Coco Chanel. Whenever I smell this perfume on someone, I inevitably think of her. There's also the smell of freshly cut grass. When I was little, we lived in a house with a big garden and I still remember that smell. My olfactive memories are linked to people I love. What was your first fragrance ?
In fact, I had two. Anaïs Anaïs by Cacharel and Jill Sander. They were both Christmas presents.

What eau de toilette do you like to smell on a man ?

I don't have any particular preference for men's fragrance. But I like it when a man smells wonderful. If he uses an eau de toilette, it should be discreet and not overpower.
