Alice Evans

Alice Evans, the beautiful English girl who won French couturier Olivier Picasso's heart seven years ago, is now winning over Hollywood in Walt Disney's 102 Dalmatians, with Glenn Close and Gérard Depardieu.

By Michèle Dokan

Nowadays, she is working more in the States and the UK than in France and has very little time for breaks. She dashes from one shoot to the next, and loves it - even if it does complicate her existence. She had dreamed of being in the movies since the time she was sixteen, but her scholarly family never seriously believed that she would really want to "make a spectacle of herself". Alice has always been a Francophile. With a Master's degree in French literature and Italian, this lovely young woman has got it all: charm, humor, and kindness...

What fragrance are you wearing today?

I'm really into Eau d'Hadrien by Annick Goutal. I never leave home without it! As a matter of fact, a bottle spilled in my purse once. The smell still lingers, and I love it! It freshens me up and helps me clear my head. I mix it with gardenia or tuberose, also from Annick Goutal's. The salespeople tell me that I shouldn't do that, but I tell them that I'm English and the English have always been eccentric. When I am on a shoot, people always notice my perfume and ask me what I am wearing. Within a few days, everyone knows when I'm around, because they notice my perfume, even from a certain distance. They recognize it instantly: it is my perfume. At the end of every shoot, I give away four or five bottles of Eau d'Hadrien.

Do you like to perfume your house?

Yes, I do. I use Eau d'Hadrien scented candles: they're marvelous. They make my whole apartment smell good. I also spray perfume on my pillow and sheets, towels, and cushions, and in my closet. When I pour perfume from a large bottle into a smaller one, I do it over my lingerie drawer. That way, if any gets spilled, it makes my things smell nice. The lovely scent lasts for a long time!

What fragrances did your parents wear?

My father never wore cologne. My mother was strictly Chanel N° 5 until I gave her some other, newer scents.

Which fragrance do you like to smell on your significant other?

Olivier wore Dior's Eau Sauvage for years. Now he is a big fan of Vétiver by Guerlain. I've always loved that perfume. If he forgets it when we go on vacation, he wears my Eau d'Hadrien, but then he worries a bit:"Do you think people might notice? Do I smell like a woman?"

What smell do you hate?

I'm not usually very big on those slightly synthetic perfumes. And I really don't like American perfume at all. They're too heavy and cloying for me.
