Description
Marni opens with bergamot intertwined with spices: pepper, ginger, pink pepper. The heart goes floral thanks to rose, but is spicy too, with its notes of cinnamon and cardamom. In the base, the fragrance evolves towards woodsy elements: patchouli, vetiver and cedar. The trail closes with an ambry tonality dominated by frankincense. Perfumer: Daniela Andrier, Givaudan.

Marni unveils an atypical perfume in the spirit of their couture collections
History
Marni is a ‘made in Italy’ couture house that proposes a modern and singular vision of luxury. The Italo-Swiss designer Consuelo Castiglioni acknowledges that she has a weakness for unexpected and unusual combinations. Marni is their first perfume. Since the house aims to be ‘totally unlike the standardized descriptions of femininity’ their perfume follows the same philosophy.
Range
Eau de Parfum 1 oz., 2.2 oz. and 4 oz.
Bottle
The jar-shaped bottle has white polka dots painted on it. The cap is red with a black and gold band around it. The cap’s color – red, black and gold – are a nod to Marni’s fashions.

A bold move from Marni to opt for a woody and incense blend for their first foray into fragrance, but like with Bottega Venetta, who also eschewed the “easy” fruity floral, it somehow -though less impressively- works. Pleasant, contemporary and with no frills, Marni by Marni appeals to the hip consumer thanks to the Olive Oyl design and the cachet of the brand but also to the woman who is tired of syrupy sweet, teeny-bopper fragrances and longs for something a bit more individual, a bit more serious. The dusty rose at the core might seem a bit old-fashioned to those sensitive to those vibes and the simple musk-woods harmony a bit pedestrian.

Maybe I don't wear too many orientals or I've strayed from orientals. To me, this is not an ordinary oriental. It opens with strong spices and pepper. After that opening act, the middle just hums along in the middle of the street. I am somewhat inspired by it.
