The green opening of galbanum and lentisk, which ensures the scent’s freshness, is sweetened with a soupçon of orange blossom and mandarin orange for a cologne effect. The heart of iris soon turns woodsy thanks to notes of cedar and vetiver. A light sensuality emanates from the dry-down, which is both sweet and oriental, thanks to frankincense and benzoin. Prada’s first fragrant creation is a woodsy oriental composed by Max Gavarry and Carlos Benaïm (IFF). In accordance with Miuccia Prada’s wishes, it is a reinterpretation of traditional perfumery using the finest essences, made from flower absolutes (mimosa, rose) and wood (patchouli) over a base of sandalwood, benzoin and labdanum.

Prada pour Homme was composed over a rich, complex Amber trail (vanilla, tonka bean, ladanum, patchouli) softened by a Fern accord (geranium, vetiver, orange blossom, myrrh, nirvanolide musk) calling to mind the scent of shaving soap. A fresh ‘Cologne’ facet (bergamot, mandarin orange, neroli, cardamom) and a ‘Suede’ one (leather, saffron, sandalwood) bring extra depth. Perfume designer: Daniela Andrier.

At the top, purple ginger, with fresh, spicy tonalities, is reminiscent of the smell of grapefruit. It intertwines with tarragon, an aromatic herb like a cross between anise and basil. The fragrance’s bracing opening then yields to a heart composed around pepper, bringing a spicy and slightly sweet side. The drydown reveals a fresh, tender and woody vetiver, with a sensation of ‘green leaves crushed in your hand’. You’ll also notice musky and slightly powdery tonalities, like in the original fragrance.

Prada Candy is a fragrance with a chic gourmand character. It opens with a lightly floral, powdery tonality (which is definitely there, even though the house has not acknowledged it), then soon unveils its sweet side. Prada’s take on candy is lush with benzoin, the central note, wrapped in a cocktail of musks. The trail unveils a caramel accord.

Amber pour Homme Intense

The fragrance opens with soapy notes plus a touch of bergamot for freshness. The spicy-woody heart reveals an alliance of patchouli and myrrh. The trail is ambry, with warm waves of vanilla plus a hint of leather, presented as a ‘barber’s soap’ note in the original fragrance.

The base is sweet and mellow, with an association of cedar and heliotrope. This flanker is more floral and less oriental than the original.
