While the bottle is indeed black, the juice is really more deep purple. It’s a soliflore (a single-flower scent) centered on violet underscored with green and spicy notes, with touches of fruit and iris. It was designed by Olivier Creed. Available from a wide range of points of sale (department stores, pharmacies and more), the brand intends to decrease the number in the medium-term, the better to control its own image. The fragrance will be available in the US at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store in Manhattan in September.
Tue, 01 Jul 2008 17:23:35 +0200 http://www.osmoz.com/News-Trends/News/Pro/Black-violets-for-Creed 2008 Young Perfumer of the Year named
The French Society of Perfumers recently awarded the International Young Fragrance Designer Award to 30-year-old Jennifer Jambon. The 20-person jury (composed of perfumers, a writer, a journalist, a fashion designer, a wine specialist and more) chose Ms Jambon’s winning composition from amongst 83 entries. After training at the ISIPCA and several different fragrance-composition companies (Firmenich, Givaudan, Mane and IFF), Jennifer is currently working in Chili. This year, participants had to design a perfume inspired by a line from Henri Bosco (see News for 10/12/07). The winning perfume, ‘Promenade,’ is green and floral, with tonalities of violet and moist flowers, and a musky chypre base. The competition, which takes place every other year, has discovered many great perfumers, including: Jacques Cavallier (1982), Patricia de Nicolaï (1988), Jean Kerléo (1965), Harry Fremont (1983 and 1984), and, more recently, Guillaume Flavigny (2002).
Thu, 22 May 2008 12:03:25 +0200 http://www.osmoz.com/News-Trends/News/Pro/2008-Young-Perfumer-of-the-Year-named Guerlain hires perfumer Thierry Wasser
Guerlain has announced that, staring in June 2008, perfumer Thierry Wasser will be their new in-house designer. Even when he was working for Firmenich, Thierry Wasser had already been responsible for the Guerlain fragrances Iris Ganache and Quand Vient la Pluie. Jean-Paul Guerlain, 71, will stay on in an advisory role, as a counselor to the presidency, for both fragrance design and ingredients. As for Thierry Wasser, he will be working in close collaboration with Sylvaine Delacourte, director of evaluation and of perfume design since 2002. Wasser is best-known as the designer (or co-designer) of hypnôse (Lancôme, 2005) and Dior Addict (Dior, 2002), two scents in which vanilla, the signature note at Guerlain, is preponderant. Last year’s ad’s slogan was: ‘In the move for l’eau’. This year, the image has changed once again, but this time it’s more laidback, featuring a pair of Latin lovers in a pared-down landscape by a lake.
Tue, 13 May 2008 18:56:52 +0200 http://www.osmoz.com/News-Trends/News/Pro/A-new-ad-for-L-Eau-par-Kenzo Spring Means Fifi!
From budding flowers to blooming tree blossoms, spring is known for its amazing scents. While rumor had it that YSL Beauté would be bought out by the Clarins Group (Clarins, Azzaro, Mugler, Stella Cadente), in the end L’Oréal won out. The terms of the agreement plan for very long-term licensing by L’Oréal of the YSL Beauté Group’s brands (Yves Saint Laurent, Boucheron, Stella McCartney, Ermenegildo Zegna, as well as Roger & Gallet and others). L’Oréal, which already has a wide portfolio of fragrance and cosmetics brands to its name (including Armani, Lancôme, Cacharel, Ralph Lauren, Biotherm, Diesel, Viktor & Rolf, The Body Shop and more) has increased its holdings even more with a choice selection of luxury names.
Mon, 14 Apr 2008 11:55:21 +0200 http://www.osmoz.com/News-Trends/News/Pro/Yves-Saint-Laurent-Beaute-leans-on-L-Oreal Parfums 137, a playful new fragrance brand
Coming soon, with a launch planned for early this year, Parfums 137 (‘’1 story, 3 essences, 7 fragrances’’) is a new brand that aims to create 7 olfactory blends based on 3 accords. In 1993, Evelyn Lauder created the ‘Breast Cancer Research Foundation', in order to support clinical and genetic research. At her initiative, the month of October has become international breast-cancer awareness month. Several brands have signed up for this good cause, including Clinique and Estée Lauder, as well as Marie Claire magazine, the perfume shops Marionnaud and the lingerie and fashion brand Wolford. The floriental juice designed by Francis Kurkdjian is built around a blend of white flowers, amber and saffron. The biggest surprise, however, lies in the package (hot pink with a black-lip print) and the U-shaped bottle evoking both the fashion designer’s initial and a horseshoe. A seriously sexy scent. Price range: €24 to 77.
Mon, 14 Apr 2008 11:47:30 +0200 http://www.osmoz.com/News-Trends/News/Pro/Ungaro-bets-on-U
