BIG CITIES, BOTTLED

Collector Paris 2006
Yves Saint Laurent
London, Paris, New York or Rome: big cities have always inspired fragrance houses. Iin addition to the culture, the music scene and the party atmosphere, London is a trendy town for fragrance too. Bottled by both Burberry and Paul Smith, London is for each of those two houses a creative vision of the chic, multi-cultural alliance of the capital of Great Britain. In the same way, for fragrance designer Laura Biagiotti, Roma evokes luxury, and the joie de vivre of the Italian capital. Inscribed at the back or bottom of many a perfume bottle, Paris evokes a powerful image, all the more so when it is the fragrance’s very name. Which probably helps to explain why, 25 years on, Yves Saint Laurent’s Paris is still so popular with women. American cities have also been used to baptize fragrances: the classic floral Giorgio Beverly Hills evokes the opulence and glamour of that mythical spot in California, and Jennifer Lopez’s Miami Glow is an homage to the city’s Latino rhythm and spirit.

But New York is The City that has truly been transformed into fragrance. With her Bond N°9 brand, fragrance designer Laurice Rahme has turned her adopted city into a veritable olfactory collection. Every Bond N°9 scent has been christened with the name of a neighborhood in New York. While Guerlain came up with Champs Elysées and Saint Laurent with Rive Gauche, no other city has been so honored. Indeed, Bond N°9 offers a selection of almost 30 fragrances dedicated to New York City: from Chinatown to Central Park, Little Italy to Wall Street. An unusual fragrance vision that Europeans will be able to discover soon.
