LA CULTURE DOLCE & GABBANA
Close on Armani and Prada’s heels, the Lombardo-Sicilian duo Dolce&Gabbana incarnates another extraordinary success story. One was born in Milan, the other in Palermo, creating an alliance of North/South contrasts that has been stimulating their creative juices for over 20 years. They share the same fascination for Italian culture: its neo-realist cinema from the 40s and 50s, rich in volcanically sensual divas; the Opera; the Baroque and Hollywood. Their theatrically staged publicity campaigns fully express their respective roots. They give an essential role to accessories, including a new jewelry line inspired by their shared passion for talismans and amulets. Perfume is part of the equation, of course. So far, the top notes for all their scents have been based on raw ingredients hailing from southern Italy: Clementine de Sicile, Bergamote de Calabre, Cyclamen Rose de Naples. The first Dolce&Gabbana Classique Homme fragrance was launched in 1994, followed by By Woman, in its leopard bottle, in 1997. D&G Masculine and Feminine arrived in 1999, and most notably, Light Blue in 2001 and Sicily in 2003… incarnated by the voluptuous Monica Bellucci. |
