+ Fruity Florals: A Feminine Classic
The success of fruity notes in women’s scents is more than just a fad. Escada, famous for its seasonal scents - the most recent was Pacific Paradise - has turned them into its signature. Waves of mango, passion fruit and red berries blend with floral notes that vary in freshness and mouthwatering sweetness from year to year. These “collectible” fragrances have attracted many fans,  and other major brands are getting into the  fruity summer fragrance act. The latest: Incanto Charms (Ferragamo) and Innocent Summer Flash (Mugler). Another fruity success story, famous for its vibrant black-currant and grapefruit notes, In Love Again (St Laurent) has been unveiling highly sought-after collectors’ editions for the past few seasons. The fruity trend has been reinforced at Guerlain, which recently enriched its Aqua Allegoria collection with Tutti Kiwi (blending kiwi with the crunchy notes of rhubarb) and Grosellina (which reveals red currant shaded with citrus and raspberry leaf). As for Lancôme, 2006 marks the launch of its first fragrance dedicated to women on the move. In its coat of exotic tropical colors, Tropiques is a Caribbean-fruity mix, with floral and vanilla notes.

+ Fruit : At the Heart of Cosmetics
Whether it’s vitamins, acids or pulp,  fruit is  cosmetics-makers’ true secret weapon. The vitamin C contained in citrus, for example, improves the skin’s glow; the acids in fruit allow for a better renewal of the layers of the epidermis, and the lycopene contained in tomatoes is a powerful antioxidant. In cosmetics, grape is a star ingredient. In fact, it is the Caudalie brand’s signature. Building on the success of its skin-care range based on unique, trademarked grape extracts, the brand is now renowned for its Vinotherapie spas ®, oases of luxury in the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards, and now in California and Italy too. Aside from its beneficial effects, fruit is also highly appreciated by consumers for its fragrance. So it’s no surprise that fruit is so popular in bath and shower lines and hair-care products, as  the success of brands like Fructis and Herbal Essences demonstrates. And for those who are searching for a touch of the exotic, the Natura cosmetics brand offers a range of products based on fruit from Brazil’s botanical riches.
+ Couture, Design: Fruity Creations
While fragrance designers appreciate fruit for its vibrant, refreshing or exotic notes, their sparkle and color also inspire the creativity of brands that design home accessories and ready-to-wear. Jewelry- and accessory-designer Viviane Cazeneuve for example, was chosen by the sportswear brand Aigle to redesign their line of boots.

The result is a fruity-fantasy, with a choice of cheerful strawberry or cherry patterns. Brands sometimes even claim their ‘fruity creativity’ in their very names. Fashion brands Mango, Banana Republic, Jus d’Orange come to mind, as does the British handbag brand Mulberry. Another fruity brand name: ‘Le Temps des Cerises’ (cherry season, i.e. spring), whose trendy denims, khakis et accessories  are inspired by vintage culture.
