Description
Ylang 49 is composed around ylang-ylang. Gardenia reinforces its floral side. Patchouli, oak moss, vetiver, sandalwood and benzoin have also been welcomed into this fragrance with a relatively woody, chypry structure. Perfumer: Frank Voelkl, Firmenich.

History
According to Le Labo, Ylang 49 is both a walk in the woods and a bouquet of flowers. It’s a floral composition that wants to go beyond flowers, beyond ylang-ylang’s spicy-floral essence alone. In 2013, Le Labo also unveils Ylang 49’s ‘imperfect twin,’ named Lys 41.

Not a typical ylang ylang (i.e. full of jasmine sweetness with a side of banana), Ylang 49 resembles an atypical blonde like Theresa Russell in modern film noir Black Widow. Less cushiony than Micallef Ylang in Gold, duskier and less sweet than Guerlain Ylang & Vanille, with more of an earthy, mossy feel than the ambery Alahine by Teo Cabanel. Recommended.
