The heroine of Lewis Caroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ off... Go
Jeanne Lanvin wanted to give her daughter Marie-Blanche the most sumptuous 30th-birthday present imaginable: a perfume of her own.So she asked André Fraysse to create a magnificent bouquet of flowers. Jeanne deliberately chose the most luxurious essences, in order to create a truly "eternal" gift.Marie-Blanche was an accomplished musician, so the perfume was christened "Arpège" after the arpeggio.Although the blend was revised in 1990 to keep up with the times, the original high standards were scrupulously maintained. To this day Arpège remains one of the most outstanding perfumes for women.
The superb floral bouquet is composed of jasmine, rose, ylang ylang, tuberose, and lily-of-the-valley warmed by spices such as clove and coriander. The end note delivers a woody vanilla finish; Arpège was the first woman's perfume to contain so much sandalwood.
The stylized image of Jeanne and her young daughter can be seen on the apple-shaped bottle which echoes female curves.Blue, the colour of the packaging, was Jeanne Lanvin's favorite color, (the original stopper was also blue). Known as "Lanvin blue," the shade was the hallmark of all her collections.
