Madagascar vanilla (Vanilla planifolia) is the most widely used vanilla in perfumery. Tahitian vanilla is a different type of vanilla. It contains less vanillin and more heliotropine with a very heady, amber, almost carnal perfume with a fruity side. Extraction of vanilla pods using supercritical CO2 produces an authentic extract – a far cry from the food images indelibly etched on our minds regarding vanillin. The vanilla note accentuates the oriental perfumes and gourmand notes.
