When purchasing power flags, how can you still give yourself a treat? First of all, most major brands are bringing out small, 1- or 0.8-oz. bottles, even for men’s scents. It’s quite practical if you don’t want to have to buy a big bottle, or you like to have several different fragrances. Another option: some brands are offering impressive scents at quite reasonable prices. Yves Rocher is a case in point, with their top-of-the-line Secrets d’Essences collection (eau de parfum 1.7 oz., 48 to 50 euros) and Fragonard, whose larger bottles are often a bargain. In the States, Bath & Body Works’ catalogue includes a wide range of fragrances in their Signature collection. Many websites offer name-brand fragrances at discount prices. And lucky Americans have another online option, the so-called “decanting” sites that offer smaller bottles instead of the regular sizes. The procedure is debatable, but so far brands have been fairly lenient with decanting sites.
