The heroine of Lewis Caroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ off... Go

Powder bars, smile bars and more… perfume shops are jumping on the beauty-bar bandwagon. The idea is to offer express services to customers who don’t necessarily have the time or the desire to go to a beauty institute. Speed beautifying or make-up-in-a-flash sessions are available from several different perfume chains, sometimes in partnership with a specific brand of make-up. Nail bars started the trend, and have been followed by brow bars, hair bars and foot bars (for a fast pedicure), light bars... And perfumes are getting in on the act too. Some niche boutiques offer fragrance bars, where you sit on a barstool facing the bottles lined up like at a regular bar. There’s even a pace that’s been named for the concept: the ‘Scent Bar’, a California boutique, better known for their internet site, Luckyscent. There are other types of olfactory counter services too. The Oxybar chain lets you breathe in oxygen scented with a choice of essential oils. And then there’s Narguilox. In a nutshell, it’s a high-tech, tobacco-free version of a nargilé (the Turkish word for a hookah pipe).
