Yves Saint Laurent Beauté leans on L’Oréal

Date: 01.30.2008

French cosmetics giant L’Oréal announced this week that they have concluded an agreement with PPR to take over Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, the group’s fragrance and cosmetics department, for an estimated €1.15 billion euros (over $1.5 billion). While rumor had it that YSL Beauté would be bought out by the Clarins Group (Clarins, Azzaro, Mugler, Stella Cadente), in the end L’Oréal won out. The terms of the agreement plan for very long-term licensing by L’Oréal of the YSL Beauté Group’s brands (Yves Saint Laurent, Boucheron, Stella McCartney, Ermenegildo Zegna, as well as Roger & Gallet and others). L’Oréal, which already has a wide portfolio of fragrance and cosmetics brands to its name (including Armani, Lancôme, Cacharel, Ralph Lauren, Biotherm, Diesel, Viktor & Rolf, The Body Shop and more) has increased its holdings even more with a choice selection of luxury names.
