Seven LOVEly scents

Among the many fragrances launched each year, love is an eternal, ever-present theme. While some people wear scents to attract or bewitch, others remain faithful to a fragrance that was first given to them by their beloved. Through their very names, some fragrant creations speak of love, often with a capital L. Enjoy our olfactory overview of 7 scents of love…

Romantic classic

Eternity - Calvin Klein

Woman
For more than 20 years, Eternity’s notes of rose, violet, carnation and white flowers have been pleasing women. It’s a perfume that celebrates eternal love, as the fragrance’s lovely black-and-white ads remind us year after year. As for the name of the perfume, it actually refers to the name of a ring that Calvin Klein gave his wife. Engraved with the word Eternity, it originally belonged to the Duchess of Windsor, the woman who the King of England gave up his throne to marry.

Modern Don Juan

L’Amoureux - D&G
Man
L’Amoureux is gentle and discreet, just like its understated bottle and pale-green scent. But it still aims to please, as its name (“the lover”, or rather, “the man in love”) implies. Romantic and modern, it seduces with gentleness rather than fiery ardor. For added charm, the woods are blended with spices and musky notes. And for a affection, a dash of flowers and fruit have been thrown in for good measure.

Oh-so romantic

Love Etc. - The Body Shop
Woman
With its sweet notes of jasmine, pear, vanilla and heliotrope, Love Etc. is redolent of love… and more! This colorfully designed fragrance also tells tales of every-day happiness. Love Etc. encourages young women to love themselves first… and then perhaps to fall in love with somebody else.

Manly heart

Déclaration - Cartier
Man
A decade after it was first launched, the men’s scent Déclaration is still going strong. It all starts with the charming name, reminiscent of a declaration of love. As for the sleek, modern bottle, it can be seen as a man’s chest or… a heart. In olfactory terms, Declaration weaves cardamom into a woody composition ranging from sweet to dry, but always illuminated with slightly floral and musky notes. The result is a pleasing men’s fragrance that’s both romantic and très chic.

Love bouquet

Idylle - Guerlain
Woman
The dictionary says an idyll is an enjoyable but brief love affair, something of a whim... And that’s the concept that Guerlain was aiming for in their latest perfume. So you won’t find either the oriental or the heady notes that are usually associated with passion here. Instead, Thierry Wasser, the designer of the fragrance, wanted a perfume that was like a huge bouquet of romantic, spring-like flowers. Here rose intertwines with peony and lilac, plus a light touch of chypre, for a modern “Guerlinade” that bestows sensuality on all those petals.

Romantic get-away

Côte d’Amour - L’Artisan Parfumeur
Unisex
The scent of salty air and blue skies, of seaside flowers and bright sunshine, Côte d’Amour (“Love Coast”) is a gentle eau to enjoy like a romantic weekend getaway. Because the Côte d’Amour actually does exist: it’s located by the mouth of France’s Loire River, near Guérande (on the Atlantic Coast). Perfumer Céline Ellena bottled the scent of a weekend by the sea. Not only is the fragrance organic, above all, it’s joyful, dreamy and poetic.

Bollywood romance

KENZO AMOUR Indian Holi - Kenzo
Woman
The root of this Indian stopover is Kenzo Amour, a powdery, woodsy and vanilla-inflected scent that makes you want to snuggle into it like a cocoon. Indian Holi proposes a muskier, fruitier and more colorful version. In India, the first moon of spring is the harbinger of Holi, a joyful and multi-colored celebration of life and love. A charming feeling that Kenzo wanted to bring you all year long. The scent, which had originally been launched as a limited edition, is now turning into a permanent item in the Kenzo range.
