Special report by Nicolas Olczyk
Green is everywhere
Symbol of renewal, nature and freshness, green is being found more and more often in fragrance, and not just in spring. The spectrum of greens being used is quite broad, ranging this season from blue-green (Yves Rocher) to almond green (Prada) via a crisp stem green (Dali), a green tea hue (Vera Wang) and anise green.
Collectibles that’ll make your friends turn green with envy!
Whether it’s sparkling or soft, green is eye-catching. This season, the color is showing up in lots of limited editions, like the 60th anniversary L’Air du Temps collectible, inspired by a gown designed by Olivier Theyskens, Nina Ricci’s artistic director. At Annick Goutal, Petite Chérie is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a fragrant collection in a spring-green hue. And for men, the forest-green bottle and packaging of Hugo Art Edition has been “tagged” in graffiti style.
Fresh, sophisticated greens
In new fragrances, green also seems to imply going off the beaten track. Both the award-winning Infusion d’Iris and Mugler’s Miroir des Vanités are sophisticated scents pairing freshness with a genteel sensuality, which means that either one of these 2 green creations can be worn by women as well as men.
Gourmand greens
When it’s the precise shade of pistachio-flavored pastries and ice cream, green can symbolize mouth-watering gourmand scents. Keep an eye out for: the perfume “do ré” in Réminiscence’s Les notes gourmandes collection, which blends almond and vanilla; Amarige Mariage, with its accents of cinnamon and vanilla, and in the USA, Britney Spears’s Believe, with its waves of guava pulp and praline. And as Francophile gourmets know, almond green is the celebrated patisserie Ladurée’s emblematic color. This past winter, the pastry-baker paired up with Sephora for a line of bath and body products, including guest soaps in the shape of “macarons.”
