Anne Brochet

She was the lovely Roxanne in the film «Cyrano de Bergerac». On stage at the Edouard VII theatre in Paris, Anne Brochet is currently the object of both Michel Piccoli and Stéphane Freiss's attentions in «Jalousie», by Sacha Guitry.

What perfume are you wearing today?

I always wear some, but not always the same one. Actually, since I was 18, I had adopted Femme by Rochas as my own. But I can't wear it any more, because my partner can't stand it. It's really a shame, because I think it's magnificent. Whenever he's away, I splash it back on... my own little way of being unfaithful! I also wear Shalimar by Guerlain, which I adore. They are both fairly heavy perfumes. I'm not interested in light, fresh perfume.

Do you remember any smells from your childhood?

I'll never forget my grandmother's smell. She would remove her make-up with Mustela lotion. I still use it to remove my make-up, too. It has a very soothing smell that does me a world of good. And when I was very little, I got a changing table, with Klorane baby powder in it for a present. It had a lovely smell, and I have always remained faithful to that smell.

What smells don't you like?

There are certain smells that I absolutely hate. For instance, the smell of coffee. It's a peculiar thing. In Amiens, where I used to live, there was a factory that I walked by a lot. It stunk of coffee, and it used to make me gag. On the other hand, I love the smell of gas in garages! My grandparents had two : one for trucks, and the other, smaller one, for cars. The smell of oil spilled on the garage floor... ummm, fantastic!

Do you like men's fragrances?

I'm not crazy about them. My partner -the Moroccan-French comedy writer Gad Elmaleh-, wears Armani, and it suits him. But I'm just as picky about his perfume as he is about mine, luckily! One day he tried something else, and I had no qualms about telling him what I thought. He never wore that again!

What fragrances do you use for your children?

For them, I go to a Nature et Découvertes store where they have these condensed-milk scents. You put a few drops on a cardboard cow, and you slip it in with their socks or sweaters. It scents their clothes. When I take their clothes out of the closet, I can't help burying my nose in them for a good whiff, they smell so nice! I had bought a bottle of Bonpoint eau de Cologne for my daughter, but it got on my nerves to be putting perfume on her already. I decided that she was too young for perfume... so I kept the bottle for myself! Of course both my children (a 5-year-old and a 10-month-old) wash with Klorane soap and smell like Mustela lotion!
