Yves Saint Laurent (1936 - 2008) began his career as assistant to Christian Dior, whom he replaced as artistic director upon Dior’s death, in 1957. In the early 60s, with his partner Pierre Bergé, Yves Saint Laurent founded a house bearing his own name whose first fragrances, Y and Pour Homme would soon be followed by many more, including Rive Gauche, Opium, Paris, Kouros, M7 and, more recently L’HOMME and elle. Saint Laurent was succeeded first by Tom Ford, then Stefano Pilati. Also present in the cosmetics and skin-care sector, PPR sold YSL Beauté to the L’Oreal group in early 2008.
