Tobacco

Category Tobacco

Warm, honey-flavored, sweet, aromatic.

France and the United States are the main producers.

The absolute is obtained through extraction from different varieties of tobacco using volatile solvents.
Because of its dark color, the absolutes are often artificially bleached.
This viscous, hirsute, 6-foot-tall annual plant has an upright stem that produces inflorescences with pointed oval leaves measuring over a foot long.
The absolutes are produced mainly in France, but their use is restricted on account of their nicotine content.

The bleached absolute or resinoid is very seldom used, except as a trace scent in certain chypre, fougere or oriental perfumes.

Tobacco leaves contain nicotine, a toxic alkaloid.
