The gum is mainly produced in the Philippines where the trees both grow wild and are cultivated.Essences and resinoids are manufactured in France mainly from gum imported from the Philippines.
The gum is obtained by exudation of the trees: resin flows from incisions made on the trunks.After collection it is either steam-distilled to draw out the essence or extracted with volatile solvents for the production of resinoid.
Used to add a fresh note to woody, spicy and zesty perfumes.Elemi resinoid is a traditional ingredient in soap.
