Fruity, juicy, berry, recoginizable.
Usually pink or red, but sometimes yellow or even black, raspberry is the fruit of the raspberry bush, a shrub in the bramble (blackberry) family. The berry grows in temperate and Mediterranean climates. The shrub is grown on farms, but is also found in the wild.
The raspberry note is generally used in women’s fragrances, where it brings a sweet, fruity touch, like a cross between blackberry, strawberry and black currant
Since it is impossible to extract essential oil from raspberries, the note is recreated in the lab. Especially with frambinone, a molecule with the sweet smell of raspberry.
Raspberry’s botanical name is rubus idaeus, which most likely comes from the legend that says the fruit originated on the slopes of Mount Ida, in Crete; rubus idaeus means Ida bramble.
