Narcissus (Narcissus Poeticus)

Category: Floral

Floral, green, fatty, animal.

Produced primarily in France (Auvergne), Morocco and Egypt.

Narcissus absolute is obtained through extraction with volatile solvents, followed by alcohol cleansing of the flowers.

Used mainly in fine perfumery to create certain floral and chypre notes.

In Greek mythology, Narcissus was so infatuated with his own beauty that he paid no heed to the young women who worshipped him. One of them, Echo, grieved by his aloofness, slowly faded away until only her voice remained. His self-absorption incurred the wrath of the gods, who condemned him to fall in love with his own reflection in the clear water of a brook. At his death, Narcissus was changed into the flower bearing his name.

The smell of narcissus promotes nervous resistance and sharpens the wit. It embodies selfishness.
