Geranium (Pelargonium Graveolens)

Category Floral

Rose, mint-flavored, spicy, lemon balm.

The geranium plant is native to South Africa where it grows wild. It is cultivated most extensively in Egypt and China, but can also be found in Réunion (Bourbon geranium) and Morocco.

The essential oil is extracted through steam distillation of the stems and flowers prior to blossoming.
Extraction is sometimes performed with volatile solvents in order to obtain an absolute.

It is widely used, particularly in the composition of men's perfume.
Most often found in fougere and rose notes.

The botanical name comes from the Greek 'geranos', meaning 'crane', due to the resemblance between the fruit and the bird's beak.

Tonic, antidepressant, antiseptic. The smell suppresses hostility and fosters financial growth.
Pink geraniums symbolize partiality; red geraniums embody melancholy.
