Freesia (Freesia refracta)

Category: Floral

Floral, jasminey, orangey.

Freesia is a perennial bulb native to South Africa. Its delicate and fragrant flowers come in a wide range of colors: white, yellow, pink and sometimes mauve.

Freesia possesses a luminous floral fragrance evoking jasmine or orange blossom, with sweet, almost fruity accents.

The freesia note is reproduced in the lab from other ingredients. It can also be recreated using the headspace technique.

Freesia is a flower in the iris family. It was christened in the 19th century by the botanist Ecklon, in homage to a doctor named Freese.
