Category Aromatic

Herbaceous, bitter, thuya

Morocco, Southern France and Tunisia are the main producers of artemisia.

Artemisia essence is obtained through steam distillation of several varieties of artemisia, a wild plant that grows up to three feet tall along the Mediterranean Basin.

Artemisia gives a lift to aromatic, fougere and chypre tonalities. It is also used in meat and poultry stuffing.

A keen botanist, sister and wife of King Mausolus, Artemisia reigned after the demise of her husband in 353 A.D. The plant and its many varieties were named after her.In ancient times, travelers used to wear artemisia around the waist as a protection against poison and sunburns. In the seventeenth century, artemisia was used to combat epilepsy, nausea and nervous conditions.

Tonic, antispasmodic, disinfectant and stimulant, it is also used as a moth-repellent.
