Angelica (Angelica Archangelica)

Green herbaceous, cedar woody, peppery, musky, animal.

Native to Europe and Siberia (1.5m), the plant is cultivated in France, Belgium and Germany, and blooms from June to August.
Its seeds are harvested in mid-July and its roots gathered in winter.
It belongs to the umbelliferae family and is found in well-watered and swampy areas as well as riverbanks.

The essence of angelica roots and seeds are obtained through steam distillation.

Especially used in fine perfumery.
Widely used in all food categories, especially liqueurs.
Young stems are sugar-coated for pastries to create the famous "bâtons d'Angélique" (angelica sticks).

The feast day of the archangel Michael traditionally fell when this plant was in bloom. The archangel once appeared and explained the plant's protective properties against evil - hence its name.

Increases physical resistance. Enhances freedom of thought and fosters independence. It facilitates advancement and is especially suited to people with responsibilities. Angelica is believed to protect against evil spells.
